No Favors
Abraham Lincoln looked up from the business of his presidential desk to see an elderly lady shuffling into his office carefully embracing a basket.
“How can I help you Madam?” queried the President in politeness.
The silver haired citizen responded, “Mr. President, I did not come to ask you a favor for me or another. I heard that you greatly enjoy cookies, so I have brought you these today.”
Lincoln was momentarily speechless, and an uninvited tear made its way down his tired face. Mr. Lincoln gently responded, “My good woman, your thoughtful and unselfish deed greatly moves me. Since I became President, thousands have come into my office but you are the first to come asking no favors.”
How long has it been since you knelt alone in the Lord’s presence just to fellowship with Him and to praise Him not only His many favors, but also, for who He is?
One song writer penned it this way:
“I didn’t come here to ask you for anything:
I just came to talk with you Lord.
You’ve answered a million prayers or more
That I forgot to thank you for;
I just came to talk with you Lord.”
May you and I bring great pleasure to the grand heart of our gracious Lord by often entering His presence without a favor to ask and only praise and adoration to share. He is worthy of all praise!
