What is Love?
A young girl wanted a family more than anything, and one day a family was coming to the orphanage where she lived to speak to the managers about taking her home with them, and she was so excited! The family came, was very excited about having her as their own daughter and took her into their home. Yet after a few months, for some reason that she couldn’t understand, she ended up back at the orphanage, her newfound family was not able to keep her. Then a few years later, another family came to talk with the manager about taking this little girl, who wanted a family more than anything in the world, home with them. The same thing happened again, she went home with them, happy and excited, then a few months later, with hardly a word of explanation, she was back at the orphanage. This occurred time after time in this young lady’s life, it seemed no one wanted her.
Many years before these incidents, a young boy who lived high up in the Andes mountains, slept fitfully throughout the night, fearing that his beloved mother, the only person he had in his life that genuinely loved him, would die from her sickness. Then, just as he had finally dozed off, his mother’s voice cried out to him to run for help, she was very sick. This young man ran as hard and fast as he could though he had had little sleep, and came back with help, but sadly it was too late, his beloved mother was dead. Though these true stories make us sad, this is not the end. The young girl many years later in a Bible class told her her classmates who were trying unsuccessfully to hold back their tears for her, to not cry because she needed her past since it helped to bring her to faith in the God who did love her! This young man went through many more hard times until he was finally old enough to try and make it on his own, and he stumbled upon a Bible-teaching church where he heard the Gospel of Jesus Christ and believed on Him. Now this man has that which he always wanted as well, his own family and more importantly a relationship with the God who loved him enough to give His very own Son for him. What is love? to answer that will take nothing less than the very Word of God, which says: “Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us, and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins.” In case you would like to find out more about this love of God as it relates to the home, the BBN Bible Institute at www.BBNBI.org offers a fine one in course 20300, Love in the Home. If you find it helpful, by all means, share it with a friend.
