Back to Basics!
|
A man went into his pastor’s office, seeking to know how to be saved from his sins. The pastor gave him an 18-page book and told him that once he read it he would know what the Gospel is. Understandably the man left completely confused about what the Biblical Gospel actually is. Unfortunately, too often, the Gospel as simply given in Scripture, the Good News of Jesus Christ His Son, is added to. When this is done, it always confuses the issue of how to be saved and to know God. Paul once said to his beloved Galatian church concerning those that dared to add to what God had given to men as to how to be saved: “But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed. As we said before, so say I now again, if any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed.” (Galatians 1:8-9) Of course there is no other gospel as Paul had earlier said, but some have sought to twist the genuine Gospel message, and in so doing have brought immeasurable spiritual harm to its adherents. In case anyone wonders what actually is (the Gospel message by which one is saved), Paul had made it as clear and simple in 1 Corinthians 15:3-4: “For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures…” If anyone wonders whether the Gospel works or not, Paul himself is one of the finest examples to be found. He had said that he delivered to them that which he himself had also received. Of course one cannot find any better confirmation than God’s authoritative Word on the matter, but Paul is a great illustration, as well as countless other believers down through the ages. To anyone who may be confused on this most important matter of just what the Gospel is, or knows someone that may be, or would simply like to study the issue for further growth in the grace and knowledge of Christ, BBN Bible Institute offers this great course, 00400 Understanding the Gospel. All the 100-plus courses in the BBN BI are free and therefore a great opportunity for you or a friend to study God’s Word at your own pace and according to your own schedule. May the Lord bless you!
