Mere Speculation...

Mere Speculation...

Mere speculation is the term we use when someone simply guesses concerning a thing, rather than having a solid foundation of truth. When what we are considering is just something passing or an interesting tidbit of trivia, speculation can be harmless, even fun. However, nothing is more important than that which concerns us spiritually, and mere speculation concerning our souls can be disastrous! When speaking in Athens, Greece, Paul the Apostle ministered to a group of people that were extremely religious, and they would gather daily just to speculate concerning spiritual matters. Acts 17:21 records for us: “For all the Athenians and strangers which were there spent their time in nothing else, but either to tell, or to hear some new thing.”

There is a way to be absolutely certain concerning eternal things, and this can be seen in Paul’s account of the Berean people in Acts 17:11. He wrote of this group, “...they received the Word with all readiness of mind, and searched the Scriptures daily, whether those things were so.” These listened intently to what Paul preached, and then they checked the Scriptures for themselves to be sure he was correct. Rather than being offended by this, Paul commended them for it!

We have a free resource that will allow you to be a Berean, in the sense that you can study the Word of God and make sure that what you hear is the truth (00900 Doctrine Of Salvation). We invite you to take this course and then share it with a friend.
