Likely many of us have heard the account of a lady while beginning to cook a meal, as she was preparing the meat, cut a significant amount of good meat off, and threw it away! Her daughter, on seeing this asked her why and the answer came back, actually I’m not sure, your grandmother always did it that way and I never asked. Now both of their curiosity was raised and they went to the lady’s mother and asked, and they both began laughing! The reason had been that many years earlier, the grandmother having a smaller pan that would not hold all the meat had seen fit to cut it to fit her pan, yet now this was not necessary, yet the practice continued anyway!
