We had the pleasure of having Joni Eareckson Tada visit us recently, and she shared some precious and powerful truths from God’s Word. One that really spoke to me was how in trials and troubles, and she certainly has earned the right to speak concerning these, we most desire God’s presence even over His explanation of them! This thought brought to mind the great truth of James 1:12: “Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love Him.” We believe at least a part of the crown of life James mentioned here is that sweet fellowship with the Lord we experience as His people in trials.

God only means good for us even and especially in trials! Yet our flesh fights against this. Sometimes we simply have to take the next step of faith in Christ, remembering His perfect love. When that particular trial is complete, we are as James also said in chapter 5, counted happy that we endured and happiness is what we all desire.
