For what are you thankful?
Thanksgiving Day, it’s more than a holiday. I love this time of year. It reminds us to reflect on our blessings. In our busyness or perhaps our troubles and struggles, we can become neglectful in expressing thanks to our heavenly Father. If we are not purposeful we can allow ourselves to become complacent and unresponsive to the incessant gifts of our generous Father. How long has it been since we expressed gratitude for the privilege we have had to hear the good news of Jesus Christ and to enjoy the many benefits of knowing Him? Have we thanked God lately for the Bibles we are privileged to own? Have we thanked Him for those who gave their lives, sacrificed their families, and endured frigid conditions, prisons and vicious assaults to provide us the Scriptures we possess? William Tyndale was one of these. He was labeled a “heretic” by the Roman Church and was martyred for his work in translating the Scriptures. How blessed we are to own a copy of Scriptures that we can personally read and study. During this season, may we pause to verbalize our thankfulness for God’s precious Word. True thanksgiving is more than sentiment or words. It includes using our blessings to bless others and to provoke others to appreciate the divine Giver. We are reminded of this in Hebrews 13:15-16: “By him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips giving thanks to his name. But to do good and to communicate forget not: for with such sacrifices God is well pleased.”
A Blessed Thanksgiving to you and your family from us here at BBN!
