Upside Down!
|
Let’s say you are building a house in which you fully expect to raise your family and most likely live in the rest of your life. How would you react if the builder said that he wanted to start building with the chimney first, then the roof , the second story, then the first, and maybe if he can find the time, lay a foundation on top of all that? You would probably laugh, pat him on the back and then ask him to stop kidding you. What if he was not kidding, but actually planned to build your home in that manner? I’m sure no one would ever become a reputable builder with outlandish ideas such as this. But there are many people who do this very same thing in their spiritual lives, which is much worse. Not only does the spiritual aspect of our lives last the full length of the physical existence, but it goes on in to eternity. We therefore need a good solid foundation on which to build a lasting spiritual life with the Lord.
It seems that the order of the day is to try to build a spiritual life on human experience and then take a glance at the Bible to find a verse or part of one that supports what we have experienced. In this way, the second floor, so to speak, is placed over the foundation and the first floor! In reality, our experience must never be placed on an equal plane and certainly not above the truth of Scripture. Yet this is exactly what is happening all over Christendom today. The BBN BI is committed to helping us as believers to put the foundation where it is supposed to be in the first place of all and then we can build a solid spiritual building on the foundation that will last for eternity! The Bible says …for other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ. Next we can place the first floor, the Word of God which is where we find the genuine Jesus, on that Foundation. Then and only then can we build a second floor. Course number 31800 in the Bible Book Studies Division, Romans as taught by Dr, Manford G. Gutzke, furnishes a solid first floor of Bible doctrine on which to lay a satisfying second floor of experience! Let’s never be guilty of the confusion and destruction caused by trying to build a spiritual house upside down!
