TAINTED TRUTH
Some years ago my wife and I sampled the menu at a restaurant at which my father was a frequent patron. It was one of the old classic diners of another era. I had eaten there in the past and found the food tasty. But while waiting for our plates my wife began to call attention to the unsanitary conditions of this friendly establishment. She asked, “Did you notice the film on the menus? She continued, “Look at the scum on the napkin holders and the dark residue left in the corners and along the baseboards, and the smears and smudges on the mirrors and tables.” She then queried, “I wonder what it looks like in the kitchen?” By this time my appetite had totally dissipated into a rising cloud that found a comfortable place on the stained ceiling tiles.
If a person chooses to frequent such a place this is their prerogative; but if they get bad food or become ill from food poison, whose fault is it? This leads to a few questions that need consideration. If we attend a church that serves bad doctrine, worldly entertainment, or erroneous philosophies, whose fault is it? Is the preacher to be blamed for preaching it? Is it the leaderships’ shame for permitting it? Is it the member’s fault for attending?
It is hard to fault those who do not know any better. However, once our eyes have been opened to the obvious facts, are we not then accountable for our responses? The Scriptures tell us of Lot’s tolerance of evil in Sodom and Gomorrah. We are told, “He vexed his righteous soul from day to day.”
Divine caution shouts from a page of Holy Scripture “the time will come when they (Christians, churches) will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts (selfish desires) shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; and they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.” Sadly we have arrived here. Today, doctrine is ridiculed, teaching of Scripture is being replaced with entertainment, dialog, drama, and stories, and the old truths and hymns are packed away to be stored in some dusty attic or closet.
Dare we go along with these departures? Does truth rot, spoil, and rust into worthless dust?
BBNBI is here to hold forth the Word of truth and offer alternative to those who desire to know and do the truth. We are here to encourage those Christians, Pastors, and churches who dare to side with God and continue in His ways. Thank God there are many who have not veered off the narrow way and there are some who want to find it. God help each of us to be one of these. Let us not be enablers of those that would dish out “tainted truth.” Remember, it is “the Holy Scriptures which are able to make you wise.” Continue to study the Word, believe, and obey it, then seek opportunities to share it with others.
We urge you to continue in your studies and introduce a friend to BBNBI.
