The End is Near!

You and I could die today. We trust that we will live on in this body of flesh, but none of us is promised another day of life on this earth. In fact, there is a passage of Scripture that describes in vivid and unforgettable terms the process of aging and the end of life on earth, which we know is death. Solomon, in Ecclesiastes 12:2-8, describes some of the aging processes, and the older we get the more true-to-life we see these verses are! For example, Solomon likens the fading of some physical powers in this way: "In the day when the keepers of the house shall tremble, and the strong men shall bow themselves, and the grinders cease because they are few, and those that look out of the windows be darkened…"

Then a couple of verses later, the psychological effects of the aging process are laid out in memorable fashion: "Also when they shall be afraid of that which is high, and fears shall be in the way, ... and desire shall fail…"  In this very earthy and practical text of Scripture, Solomon poignantly points out that time is moving quickly and as James says, "For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away." (James 4:14b)

At the threshold of this New Year, we would do well to heed Solomon’s counsel to "Remember now thy Creator in the days of thy youth, while the evil days come not, nor the years draw nigh, when thou shalt say, I have no pleasure in them…"  One day, and it may come upon us while we are not looking, we will no longer have the ability, or more importantly, the motivation to seek God. Now is the time to get right with God and live in fellowship with Him since this is the very thing that gives meaning to life, both here and in the hereafter! Solomon ends this great Book by reminding us that reading and heeding the Word of God will make our lives "…as nails fastened by the masters of assemblies…" in that it brings stability and assurance to us! The staff of the BBN Bible Institute genuinely desire that you have a profitable 2009, most of all spiritually-speaking, in that we will be closer to God in 2009 than we were last year. If you would like to study this great Book of Ecclesiastes, the BI offers a tremendous course on it taught by Dr. Tom Taylor, course number 21900 in the BBN BI. May the Lord bless you all!

Please help us by introducing a friend to the BI this week.
